The beginnings

Momotaro’s Divine Sea Warriors (1945) by the Japanese director Mitsuyo Seo was the first feature length Japanese anime film made. Anime was simply the translation Manga art into motion, and in the first half of the 20th century was an expensive medium, hence most early pieces of anime are either commercial, or government funded. This was funded by the Japanese Naval Ministry.
