Akira, by Katsuhiro Otomo

Akira (1988) directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, is now widely regarded as one of the best animated films of all time. Otomo smashed the trend of corner cutting that had developed in film and animation by incorporating detailed scenes, lip-synched dialogue and super-fluid motion. By the early 90’s anime had gained cult status with Akira being considered the landmark film that established the style across the world.
